As part of the Healthy Schools programme, St Peter's Catholic Primary School has been running a Gardening Club for the past year. They have decided to expand the Kitchen Garden and become part of Foodshare UK's 'Growing to Give' project. Foodshare is being rolled out across the UK in conjunction with the RHS and other organisations to help teach children the importance of growing food and sharing with the local community. In the summer, the school started two new Foodshare beds, growing vegetables for Pitstop Day Centre, a drop-in centre for homeless, unemployed and socially disadvantaged people in and around Leatherhead. Unilever then donated and helped build two more raised beds, but it is the children who have tended and watered about 20 varieties of vegetables, then harvested them for Pitstop.

St Peters has also started a 'Donation Station' where parents can leave excess of their own grown food, plus donate tinned or non-perishable food (not dairy or frozen)—such as a Buy One Get One Free offer where only one of the items is wanted. This donated food is delivered to Pitstop on a daily or bi-weekly basis depending upon how much is donated.
