There is definitely something invIgorating about the month of September.  With the sun still warm and the air fresh, don’t you feel energised? Don’t you just want to be outside?

I suppose it’s Ingrained from an early age. September is the month for going back to school, meeting up with our friends and looking forward to the coming months and the run in to Christmas. And so it is with your Trumpet, dear reader, as the parish awakes from its summer slumber and marches forward into the autumn.

But we are getting ahead of ourselves. There was, of course, one momentous event for the parish during the summer Peter Andrews was ordained to the priesthood. All of those who attended will remember it not just for the beauty of the ceremony and the singing, but also of the sense of fun and good humour in the hall afterwards – typical of Peter.

But in the main, we are looking forward to the months and events to come. We open with a summary from Mike King, of the parish AGM and plans for the future and continue the theme with the introduction of the new Parish Fundraising team (well, we wouldn’t be proper Catholics without one, would we? Fr. Tony managed to smuggle one fundraising idea into this edition.).

Tony Turner looks forward to some of the saint’s days to come and Tom Punt gives us his thoughts on the new Roman Missal and the thinking behind it.

Paul Gruzalski is in reflective mood, on the subjects of Foreign Aid (let’s hope it’s not savaged in ‘the cuts’) and ‘self-esteem’! By way of contrast, Steve Rouse is in reflective mood on the subject of boils (yes, really).

And of course, we have news from our Schools. At St. Andrews we have a new head master in Alan Mitchell. Our thoughts and prayers go with him as he starts a demanding new job.

There is also a short article from St. Peter’s on their ‘Foodshare’ project. What a brilliant idea. Well done, St. Peter’s!

And finally, dear reader, there is a reflection on the month of September itself!

Now, don’t you feel invigorated?
